Exploring professional identity and values of physiotherapists

Just what makes a ‘good physio’? By whose standard? How do clinicians create their identities and how do they mesh their professional and personal values? At the PIRL we are exploring these questions through qualitative and critical social lenses, in addition to survey research and direct observation. These are challenging questions that are forcing us to explore alternatives to how physiotherapy knowledge is generated and interpreted. These questions are expected to contribute to our research program in professional education and training, by identifying important targets for fostering the development of well-rounded health care providers.
