healthcare provider pre- and post-professional development

At the PIRL we are exploring innovative and alternative ways of developing knowledge, skills, and behaviours in healthcare providers. Our focus is on providers of pain care. We explore uses of reflection as a pedagogical and evaluative tool, and we have now developed a new competency-based and interprofessional Master’s level degree program in Interprofessional Pain Management. We have also explored different influences on simulated evaluation of clinical skills including exam stress, and developed new rubrics for clinical skills competencies. We continue to explore the drivers of choice of continuing professional development programs by clinicians, a line of inquiry that we believe will help us better understand just what are the goals, values, and aspirations of healthcare providers.
